Folklore Book Launch Night - June 25th 2010

Friday 25th of June was yet again another successful and very enjoyable evening for both the Midfield Community and the Midfield Development Association.

Local people, public representatives (Minister Dara Calleary, Cllr Gerry Murray and Cllr Joseph Mellett, Deputy John O’Mahony sent his apologies as he could not attend), Fr Dermot Meehan and people from the surrounding localities turned out to support and attend the official launch evening of our folklore book called "A Story Told to Us Last Night”.

The official launch of our book was made by well known author Vincent McDonnell who congratulated the Midfield Development Association, the Midfield Community and Marian Newman for the completion of this very fine book.

A very enjoyable evening was held in Julian’s of Midfield with traditional Irish music (provided by Marian Egan and some of the pupils of Midfield N.S) and also a cheese and wine reception was held on the night. Members of the Swinford Variety Group were in attendance in costume as people mingled and discussed the book.

A number of books were sold on the night and everyone agreed that it was indeed a truly unique and universal book which can be enjoyed by everyone both at home and by the wider Irish Communities abroad.

A book and project which is a great credit to the Midfield Development Association, the Midfield Community and in particular to Marian Newman for her dedication and hard work in this project bringing it from a mere thought all the way through to this magnificent book.

Our live website was also unveiled on the night with much thanks to Tony Fahey of Eye 4 Impact who built this wonderful site for us.

We will also be holding a stall at the local town festivals; at present we can confirm we will be attending the Siamsa Sraide festival, Ballina Salmon Festival and Westport Town festival.

This book will become part of our history and will be used as a historical document in years to come.

Midfield Development Association would like to express many thanks to: Vincent McDonnell, Sean Julian (Treanlaur Catering sponsors of the food), Londis Swinford (sponsors of the wine), Julian of Midfield, KPS Printers, Swinford Photography, Tony Fahey Eye 4 Impact, Swinford Variety Group, Marian Egan, Gus Conroy, Lorraine Costello, Noreen Kelly, Bobby Brennan, Michael Brennan, All who donated items to us to re create the old cottage scene (Winnie Muldowney, Margaret Julian, Carmel Mchale Roe, Marian Newman, Maura Lambe, Paula Salmon, Fr Meehan, Fr Gormeley, Joseph Mellett, Vic Hamshaw), Susan Lavin and Jackie Doyle and to all who attended and supported us in this project.
